We are what happens when 3 friends with a need to build social, mission-driven enterprises come together.

Our story starts in 2002 when Kiran, Helen and Debkanya met each other at college. Over the next 22 years, this friendship blossomed into multiple trips together, marriage, children starting businesses and more trips!

Helen runs one of the most successful educational institutes in Bangalore and so, Kiran and Helen talk a lot about education. A lot. Where it's going, what needs to change in the system and how.

One of those conversations resulted in the discussion around the need for young ones to engage more with the world around them. Engage with the news that makes the world turn.

However, news channels that exist today are made of screaming people, over dramatization of news and gore. And the newspapers are nothing better. It's not what Kiran and Helen as parents would ever want their children exposed to. But the conundrum is that they felt it was extremely important for the kids to know what is happening in the world around them. So what gives?

As with all ideas, Kiran bought a domain, put up a website and started talking to Debkanya (fondly known as Debbie). about it. Given her years of journalism and marketing prowess she was the perfect friend/co-founder to join the bandwagon and build Takaro.

We are on a mission to enable 1 million kids with the power of understanding the world around them and become active participants in it.

The weekly podcast is our first step towards building the current affairs literacy amongst our kids. We partner with educational institutions and other child-focused organizations to help spread the word and build a future where kids can also understand and participate in the world around them.
